It’s almost Halloween! We have found 5 Halloween movies that range from safe for kids to moderately scary to horror. There’s no ranking here, just a selection of some of the best horror movies to keep you on your toes on a chilly October night.
All of them are guaranteed to terrify you. So trick or treat. We’ll let you decide which is which.
1. The Conjuring
Set in the autumn of 1971, “The Conjuring” tells the true story of paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga), who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most horrifying case of their lives. The movie is scary as hell – 86% of people on Rotten Tomatoes seem to agree!
Before The Conjuring, there was ANNABELLE.
Annabelle is a 2014 American supernatural horror film directed by John R. Leonetti, produced by James Wan. The film starts with the same opening scene from The Conjuring, in which two young women and a young man are telling the demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren about their experiences with a doll called Annabelle which they believe is haunted.
She’s just a glorified prop, an excuse for bad things to happen to uninteresting people. ‘Telegraph’
The film takes place in two different times: the present and 11 years earlier. Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home.
4. The Ward
The Ward is a 2010 American psychological horror film directed by John Carpenter. Taking place in 1966, The Ward is about chronicles a young woman who is institutionalized after setting fire to a house, and who finds herself haunted by the ghost of a former inmate at the psychiatric ward.
5. Friend Request
Laura is a popular college student who is very active on social media with over 800 friends on Facebook. But one day her life changes, after accepting a friend request from a social outcast named Marina. Laura’s closest friends begin dying violently and before her own time is up, Laura has to solve the mystery behind Marina and her Facebook profile.
