Arctic Monkeys opened the ceremony with fire-lit letters ‘A’ and ‘M’ by playing ‘R U Mine?’ and shortly after won the best group and best album for the third time.

Katy Perry dressed as a colourful egyptian performed Dark Horse.

Ellie Goulding won best British female, Bruno Mars scooped the prize for International Male Solo artist of the year, while Lorde was named Best International Female .

Global Success Award went to One Direction, and shortly after they got awarded Best British Video in a public vote via twitter.

Daft Punk won the International Group prize, Bastille picked up Best Breakthrough Act and Best Single went to Rudimental feat. Ella Eyre for their breathtaking ‘Waiting All Night’.

Incredible performance from Bastille and Rudimental was named ‘Bastimental’ by James Corden.

David Bowie has been named best British male at the Brit Awards in London, although he was not there in person to collect his award and sent Kate Moss to get the prize and read a speech on his behalf.

The ceremony finished with a medley by Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers, who played Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, Chic’s Good Times and Williams’ Happy.
