Otherwise known as “the Shakespeare place”, Stratford-upon-Avon has plenty to offer travellers on a weekend break than tourist attractions based around the greatest writer who ever lived. In fact, Stratford-upon-Avon is thought by many to be the most beautiful town in all of England. (Seriously, the vegetation and the fields have to be seen to be believed.) There’s Warwick Castle to explore, and the markets that make up the bulk of the town are often filled with unique items. If you’re looking for a culturally rich, relaxing, and quintessentially British weekend getaway, Stratford-upon-Avon might be the place for you.

Of course, if you’re not looking for a quiet and serene weekend, then there are plenty of options for you in the UK. Blackpool is probably one of the first places that spring to mind, especially if you’re up for visiting Blackpool Pier (which, admittedly, is what most people come to Blackpool to do!). It’s without a doubt one of the most exciting and fun places in the entire country, and getting a bed and breakfast at a good price in the area is surprisingly easy. If you’re looking for a family getaway that provides a cheap and thrilling alternative to the likes of more expensive theme parks in Europe, then this could be the perfect place for you.

Not many consider having a weekend getaway in London. And, in truth, this is pretty understandable. It’s probably the most expensive place in England to go for a weekend, and it’s often seen as a hectic place that’s always heaving with tourists. But perhaps the added expense and hassle of crowds is worth it for what is hands-down one of the most culturally exciting and fun-filled cities in the world. Don’t give me the tired lines about London being a pretty drab place – it may be expensive, but there’s so much to do and so much history to explore that there’s no denying a weekend away in London is something everyone should aim to experience. (Unless you work in London already, in which case it doesn’t seem like there’s that much point.)

Is London the greatest city in England? Perhaps not. It’s certainly a brilliant place, but many would argue that the city of York is even better. York is certainly a very different experience, and it’s arguably an even more beautiful place than London; the architecture here is incredible, and there’s more green space than in the capital. Don’t underestimate this place if you’re living for a city getaway but feel that London would be too expensive or overwhelming!

When people think of Cornwall, they often think about St Ives. It’s considered to be one of the most popular beach holidays in Europe! There are times where the beaches, incredible vegetations, and shocking blue water makes you feel like you’re nowhere near England. There’s a reason J. M. W. Turner spent many creative periods in St Ives! Of course, wherever you go in Cornwall, there’s bound to be something to please solo travellers and families alike. The food here is famous across the UK, and it’s probably the best place to go surfing in the country if you’re into that sort of thing!
