Healthy Living: Detox

Most of us want to change our every day habits for the better, exercise more and eat as healthy as possible. After a month of ‘not-doing-so-well’ which included a lot of ‘sweets-snacks-fries-cocktails’, it’s definitely a good time to start treating your body better, and eat lighter and healthier. Doesn’t have to be less delicious though.

I have started my first day of detox with an unusual smoothie and brain power salad (recipes included below) constantly catching myself on the thought that looking after myself feels amazing. After I got home from a long, busy day in the office, instead of ’10 minutes of me-time’, I took a detox bath with Epsom salts and coconut oil.

I’ve decided to go for Chia Berry Smoothie as it’s high in vitamin C and boasting more than 10 grams of fibre. It takes literally a few minutes, so easy to prepare and tastes delicious.

75 grams frozen mixed berries
120 mL unsweetened pomegranate juice
120 mL cup water
1/2 tablespoon chia seeds

Detox bath with Epsom salts and coconut oil

Detox is not just about smoothies and salads. Eating healthy needs to be balanced with exercising, meditation or yoga classes. Whatever floats your boat really!

Detox bath is designed to relieve stress, and soothe sore muscles. Epsom salt is the main ingredient of such baths, as they pull toxins through the open pores, giving the body the magnesium it needs. Hydrating is especially needed in winter months, so adding a coconut oil will be a perfect solution.

How to make the detox bath:

large spoon of coconut oil;

2 cups of Epsom salt;

5-10 drops of your favorite essential oils (such as lavender or eucalyptus).

It’s up to you how much time to spend in the detox bath. But remember, it takes a while for the pores to open and your skin to absorb the healthy nutrients. So, put some music on, lay back and enjoy!
