Kids are wonderful and sweet, and they will really add something to your day. You can have fun with them playing or reading and your natural intent to care for them can be realized here. You can make them kids happy with toys, games and books. Wow them with your wacky uniforms and scrubs. And you can really strike a bond with them and their families on a daily basis.

Help Make a Difference

Perhaps the most rewarding aspect here is that you get to make a difference in these children’s lives. Many of them will be unwell when they come to you, and it will be your job to look after them and make them feel safe. So, it’s important that you understand you are making a difference for these kids. You might save a lot of lives over the course of your career. And you will be able to enjoy the knowledge that you’ve done something fulfilling.

Crazy Hours

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, though. The fact is that the life of a nurse in paediatrics can be gruelling. You’re going to be working a lot of hours, and they’re going to be a lot of antisocial hours as well! You’ll have to build your social life around your career. It’s also important to understand that you may be working 12-hour shifts or more on a regular basis. And that’s why it’s so important to make sacrifices for your profession. You can kiss goodbye to regular nights out, dinner parties, or even Netflix binges. Work comes first. Always.

Upsetting Situations

When you work as a nurse, you are going to be dealing with death on a regular basis. This can lead to upsetting situations. This is even worse when you think about the fact that you are dealing with children here. Bonding with your patients is the raison d’être for any nurse. The only problem is that if a patient you’ve bonded with dies it can be heart-breaking. So you have to come to terms with the fact that you are going to be dealing with a lot of difficult and upsetting situations.

You can see these are just a few of the pros and cons presented for following this career path. If you are naturally someone who likes to help people and wants to make a difference in their lives, this is perfect for you. But, you have to understand the sacrifices you are being expected to make, and how they will affect your life.
